Heading out!

So, here's the deal. Tomorrow's the day. I'm going on the road for a year - or as long as I have the skills to earn my living out there. I'm a 27-year-old Finnish journalist and for the next year I'm going to travel around the world writing, photographing and doing radio pieces for (mostly) Finnish medias.

It was about a year ago that I told my then boss I wanted to head out to the world at some point and work as a freelance correspondent. In the back of my mind I wondered if it was a good thing to reveal a wish like that to your boss - wanting to do something completely different. But the funny thing was he didn't fire me - the company became my client for the trip ahead.

In 2011 it's not a big deal that someone is going to travel the world for one year. Some people do it for decades (and also grow a rasta nest that smells evil and houses dozens of different kind of wildlife). But after 10 years of working as a radio DJ in neat, tidy indoor studios it's exciting, thrilling and yeah, a bit scary too, to leap into the unknown and try and work under circumstances you can never predict beforehand. The name of this blog "yksi pieni askel" is Finnish for "one small step" which at times can be a giant leap to the one making it.

Go and like my trade name Ihana Media on Facebook. That's where I'll update all my future articles and radio air times - and of course all my blog updates as well.
